Cockroach Control Program

Cockroach Control Program

Cockroaches need the same things that humans need in order to survive, Food, Shelter and Water.

Cockroaches will eat just about anything, they like humans are omnivores. This is why we find them in our kitchens, in food storage areas (cabinets, pantries) and food prep areas. The preferred meal of a cockroach includes starches, sweets and animal protein. They thrive on foods that are fermented or moldy, love greasy foods and cheese. If these food sources are not available the cockroach is not discouraged because they will also feed on decaying matter in garbage cans and even human waste. There are so many items that roaches can feed on that most people wouldn’t even consider a food source such as soap, makeup, book bindings, wallpaper paste, paper, dead insects, even their own offspring if a food source is not available. Many species of cockroaches can even go a month without food if a water source is available.

Inspection

Our Cockroach Control Program Starts with a thorough inspection of your property.

Evaluation

  • Inspect interior – Kitchen cabinets, behind appliances, food storage areas other harborage sites
  • Exterior- Foundation Walls, areas of vegetation and mulch beds.
  • Identify the type of cockroach
  • Check for moisture sources and other harborage areas.
  • Make recommendations for sanitation and repairs.
  • Design a treatment plan.

Control

Each cockroach treatment will be designed to fit your property needs. Because there are several different cockroach species in our region we find this identification the most important part of our treatment plan.

  1. Vacuum large populations with a hep-a-vac.
  2. Treat cracks and crevices of harborage areas with a flushing agent or residual insecticide, apply baits and set monitoring devices.
  3. Schedule next service visit. Depending on the amount of activity a service program may require either a monthly or twice a month service program.

Cockroaches typical to our region

  1. German Cockroach
  2. Brownbanded Cockroach
  3. Oriental Cockroach
  4. American Cockroach

Cockroach control is very important for health and safety reasons. They spread at least 33 kinds of bacteria including Salmonella and E coli. They are also known to cause allergic reactions and trigger asthma attacks in children.

Neat Cockroach Fact: Due to their open circulatory system, and the fact that they breathe through little holes in each of their body segments, they are not dependent on the mouth or head to breathe. Therefore a cockroach can live up to a week without its head. Without a mouth it can’t drink so it dies of thirst.
